Hi there!!

After a few months behind the scenes [Re]inventing my life™, I finally decided to re-open the blog. With lots of new adventures and experiences in these months, I now feel confident that you will fully enjoy this blog as you should :-)

Just to set you back on track again, let me tell you what’s been going on in my life lately. Just a couple of months ago, I borrowed some money in Canary Islands and took a plane to Tokyo, Japan. With only my suitcase and the big dream of finding a job in Japan, I landed in Narita international airport on a very sunny day.

Ok, I wanted a job, so I did what I thought I had to do to Find a job in Tokyo:

  • I updated my resume
  • … and brushed up some technologies for the interviews
  • I went through all the “find-a-job” websites that are available in Japan (gaijinpot, daijob, careercross,…)
  • I visited most of the big headhunters in Tokyo (Robert Walters, Michael Page,…)
  • and finally, one way or another, I found some interviews!
  • I went through several interview processes for big and small companies. Some went really bad, and some went a little better ;-)

One day, after several rounds of interviews with one firm, I was given the opportunity to sit down with one of the partners. He made me an offer that I couldn’t refuse, and since the very next day, I started working for growing IT Consulting firm named Fusion Systems Japan.

What does Fusion do? Fusion’s main business model relies on his unique approach to consulting named co-sourcing. They serve a wide range of clients, ranging from capital markets to retailing industries in Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Ok, but what do I exactly do? I was hired as an Associate Consultant (yeah, sounds cool, but is the lowest in the hierarchy! hehe). Nonetheless, I’ve been very lucky and I have been given some responsibilities already. I’m currently working in a Business Analysis project with one of Japan’s biggest investment banks.

My day starts dressed like a salary-man (wearing suit and tie) and going to work in the Tokyo subway, having meetings with senior managers, and working in the 47th floor of some skyscraper tower in one of the financial districts of Tokyo…

Why did I decide to join Fusion? Well, it didn’t took me much time to decide if I wanted to join or not. As a Fusion consultant, I have the opportunity to work with several Investment Banks in different project around Asia. It made me part of a team of highly experienced consultants in a “start-up flavored” company.

My colleagues at Fusion range from the savviest IT engineers, to the most experienced project managers I have met in my life. I do believe that being in the middle of such environment is definitely one of the biggest reasons that pulled me in to join this company.

Are you looking for a job in Tokyo? Fusion is actively hiring engineers for its Tokyo office. Here are the minimum requirements you must have:

  • BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Fluent in English or Japanese
  • World class programming skills
  • Several years of software development experience
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Enjoy working in a high-energy, unstructured environment on project teams

If you fulfill these requirements and you do want to become part of Fusion Systems in Tokyo. Please send me your latest resume to Fernando [dot] Martin [-at-] fusionsystems [dot] co [dot] jp

Cheers!!!
